Speaker Policy

COMPENSATION:

CME Credit: Speaker hours will automatically be reported to the AOA (for osteopathic physicians).  To be eligible for credit for the entire event, Faculty must be a registered attendee (either paid or comp'd) and complete the Attestation Form at the conclusion of the program.

 

REIMBURSEMENT OF EXPENSES:

  • All approved expenses and honoraria will be paid after the conclusion of the event.
  • A Request for Reimbursement form is provided on page five in your speaker agreement.
  • Receipts or similar documentation is required for all expenses claimed.
  • A request for reimbursement will not be processed if any required CME documentation is missing or incomplete.
  • Personal Vehicle Mileage: Mileage to/from the airport or to/from the event location from home will be reimbursed at the IRS mileage rate at the time of travel, up to a maximum of 400 miles round trip.  Distances of more than 400 miles must be approved by ACOFPCA in advance.
  • Lodging: ACOFPCA will cover one night's stay, up to an amount equaling ACOFPCA's group rate at the host hotel for the event.  ACOFPCA is responsible for securing your lodging accommodations and will provide your confirmation.

 

AUDIO-VISUAL EQUIPMENT:

  • ACOFPCA uses polling via our convention mobile app at the Seminar.  
  • Additional equipment requested for your presentation not listed the speaker agreement as being provided, must be approved three weeks in advance by ACOFPCA, unless provided by Speaker at no charge to ACOFPCA.

 

CME DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS:

REQUIRED MATERIALS.

  • Educational Objectives: Speaker must provide 3 - 5 learning objectives.  These are published in the convention mobile app, online and in the syllabus.
  • Sell Assessment questions.  Speaker must provide 7 multiple choice self assessment questions for the presentation.  Questions are used during lecture within the mobile app and post testing online.
  • Session Description: Faculty must provide a description of their session, which may be used for marketing or informational purposes.  The description should be one or two paragraphs in length.
  • Biographical Information and CV: Faculty must provide a current CV, as well as a short (one paragraph) bio.  Bios are used to introduce Speaker to their presentation.  CV's are not published and are retained for CME documentation.
  • Needs assessment: You are required to submit a needs analysis and a peer reviewed journal article published within the last 2 years that substantiates your needs assessment.

    For example, for a previous lecture on Risk Management Tips for the Digital Age, the needs analysis statement was:

    Some in the health care community have viewed social media and electronic communication as disruptive and have been reluctant to adopt the technology. But electronic communication is not a trend or a fad. It is a revolution that is changing the world. This lecture will address the evolving risks and benefits associated with social media and electronic communication and will provide risk tips to mitigate potential liability.

     

    And an example of the Peer Review journal article published in the last 2 years that substantiated this analysis statement was:

    Guidelines for Physicians: Dos and Don't of Patient Email. Medical Economics. Publish Date: June 10, 2013. By Eric E. Shore, DO,  JD.

PRESENTATION MATERIALS:

  • PowerPoint is the only file type accepted.
  • Include source references are your slides for data included in your presentation.
  • All supplemental materials not reproduced by ACOFPCA must be approved prior to distribution and becomes the expense and responsibility of the speaker to copy and ship onsite. (All pre-published article submission will require a signed copyright release from the publishing entity.)
  • Presentations are included in the event Mobile App for attendees as PDFs.  Faculty must remove any copyrighted or protected material from the version submitted to ACOFPCA for publication and/or request that materials containing such be withheld from publication.
  •  ACOFPCA reserves the right to edit learning objectives, self-assessment questions, bios, and descriptions for space or time considerations.
  • Details and manner of speech are under the control of the Speaker.  However, the ACOFPCA prohibits the use of profanity or any use of speech that would be construed as offensive, derogatory or in poor taste during your presentation.  Further, the ideas and opinions expressed in your session, and in any handout materials provided, are those of the presenter and not of ACOFP-CA. Finally, the speaker agrees to hold harmless and indemnify ACOFP-CA for any claims made, including copyright violations, arising from speaker remarks or handouts.


FACULTY DISCLOSURE POLICIES:

  • To help ensure balance, independence, objectivity, and scientific rigor in CME programming, Faculty are required to disclose any real or apparent conflict(s) of interest that may have a bearing on the subject matter they present.
  • Faculty must make audiences aware of products or treatments not yet approved/under review/investigation if addressing those products or treatments in their presentation.
  • At no time during any lecture is there to be favoritism given to one drug, product, or company.  Nor is it acceptable to promote any product(s) used or provided by Faculty. 
  • Inclusion of a disclosure slide in your presentation is strongly advised and recommended.
  • A disclosure form is provided in your speaker agreement as Faculty for the Annual Seminar.


CANCELLATION:

  • Either party may cancel this Speaker Contract without obligation to the other if cancellation notice is received in written form at least 50 days before appearance date.
  •  If, due to illness, accident causes legally known as ACTS of God, or circumstances beyond the control of either party, this contract shall be cancelled.  Verification may be required.  ACOFPCA shall not be liable for payment.
  • ACOFPCA will not be responsible for payment of hotel accommodations if such accommodations were secured by the speaker, but not cancelled prior to this event, in accordance with the policy of the resort.
