Over the past six years we have begun integrating more of our students and residents into our conference.  Historically, educational conferences have mainly been geared towards CME to the practicing physician.  As chair of our Academic Committee, we have made it our mission to fully incorporate all levels of training (pre-medical students, medical students and residents) into our annual meeting.  There are numerous benefits of having all levels interacting together – networking, job opportunities, education, and most importantly promoting the wonderful field of Family Medicine.   Our annual conference caters to mainly primary care (Family, Internal, and Pediatricians) with about 800+ registered attendees.

The day is started with our Family Medicine Residency Showcase where numerous California FM Residencies participate by having resident representatives on our panel.  This session is a moderator led panel where residency representatives answer various questions regarding their program.  Many programs have found this to be a great recruitment tool for pre-vetting prospective students.

The program through the rest of the day includes various speakers on subjects pertinent to each level - Preparing for Residency, Life after Residency, Finance, Hands on Ultrasound, Contraception Workshop, Medical Legal News, and an Osteopathic Manipulation Workshop.

This year’s forum will be our 4th Annual Scientific Poster Presentation open to Medical Students and Family Medicine Residents.  Interested Medical Students or Residents who would like to display on August 3 can contact Mark Shiu, DO, FACOFP.

Lastly, following the Forum there will be a hosted Social Hour where students and residents will get a chance to socialize with job recruiters and practicing physicians.

Overall, we are looking forward to another great event.  We are looking to continue this annually and extending this portion of the program to multiple days as well in the future.

This event is open to all DO and MD Family Medicine Residents.  Registration is required for this event.  There is a nominal registration fee of $30 for residents and students until two weeks prior to the conference or $40 at the door.  This registration fee allows entry to this event only.
